Litter Picking For The great Big Green Week in Stanwix
Litter pickers will be getting ready around Stanwix for this Sunday’s Great Big Green Week event sponsored by Cumbria Action for Sustainability, Zero Carbon Cumbria and Cumberland Council. They will be working with the local 13th Carlisle cub group, Friends of Rickerby Park and locals to help tidy up the area. Paul Nedved is ‘delighted that this popular event is taking place again’.
This is just one of the activities organised by Stanwix Community Association as they prepare yet another fun filled activity day on the 18th of June, with craft activities using recycled materials: ‘it is such a good opportunity for people to see the value in stuff we usually throw away – everyone can create something useful and fun to take home,’ Abby of Artscool.
There will be an opportunity to make your own fruit smoothie using only pedal power on the smoothie bikes; you will be asked to invent your own flavour from a selection of fruits supplied by Sainsbury’s.
A creepy bug trails through Rickerby Park is planned to investigate the importance of biodiversity – families and people of all ages can take part.
The team from Sustainable Carlisle along with Dr Helen Davison (Cumberland Council’s Green Councillor) will be attending to share some top tips on how we can all make small adaptations to our lives that will have a lasting impact on the planet.
Brian Wernham, Stanwix Liberal Democrat councillor will be in attendance to respond to questions.
All our welcome to pop along between 10.30 and 1.30 to take part, create some willow art, enter the quiz and have some cuppa and a cake.
