OK I know- it’s a bit early to be using the C word… but some of you guys do insist on being organised weeks before my Christmas shopping even gets thought about. So in the interests of organisation our little patch of Carlisle, here’s a little shout out about a wee extravaganza that we’re organising at the Community Centre on Church Street on the 22nd of November. It’s one in our series of community events that is trying to show off the improvements in the community hut that is now starting to come back to life as more and more people discover what a great wee venue it is! Please do come along and have a look as it’s a grand place for a knees up now!
Lisa Wheatcroft of the Sweet Dream Cake Company is coming to demonstrate that mysterious art of the cup cake and cake decorating. Just in time for you baking enthusiasts to get some practise in before the holiday lands.
Lynne Rowley will to be on hand with her own Curtains, Cushions and Cakes range. She will have a good selection of “stuff” for your Christmas present lists.
Our own Jenny Derczynski will be in attendance on the night, to chill you out with her Carlisle Therapies. She’s a mean hand with that neck massage – you have been warned! Joking apart, she will be on hand to demonstrate some of the lovely oils and specialties that she has available for Christmas gifts for you, your family and your friends.
To top it all off Stanwix’ own scouts will be here to stuff you full of more cakes. They have become something of a regular gang at the community centre in the past year and have given us some great support. This time they are looking for a little bit of support for themselves. Next summer they are taking a large team away to Kandersteg in Switzerland for an activity week in the heart of the Alps.
I took part a few years ago as an adult helper and it was a tremendous trip with some of the older ones tackling their first 10,000ft peak and being dangled into crevasses on a glacier… just to prove to them that there are better things than Botchergate on a Saturday night; to look forward to.
So do come and join us at Stanwix Community Centre on November 22nd for lots of oils, cakes and decorative fun. It doesn’t matter whereabouts in Carlisle you live – you’ll still be welcome if you like the sound of the evening. If you like the look of the room, you might even fancy making a booking for your own social, training or educational event. We’re even starting to take bookings and payments online.
