Stanwix Olympic Torch relay crowds

Stanwix Welcomes the Olympic Torch Cavalcade

Carlisle is one of those lucky places that actually received a double dose of Olympic Torch craziness today.  After yesterday’s first encounter with the  (almost) Eternal Flame, the cavalcade of athletes, sponsors and outriders spirited themselves back over the border as if the Reivers were “nicking” the city’s treasures again.  However, when they got to Dumfries they obviously ran into one of the Wardens of the Debatable Lands and promptly got turned round and set back on track again.

This was good news for the children of Stanwix School and the Stanwix Playgroup, because they got a second chance to let off a little bit of steam and join in the Olympic build up.  What was really great was to see how the teachers at Stanwix School and the leaders at Stanwix Playgroup have got the children out and about; able to scream shout and give a bucket load of enthusiasm – all the while staying brilliantly behaved.  That’s something special when you hear some of the media whining about youngsters.  Not usually the media people it has to be said… but the pundits who like to bleat  – and don’t get me started about Gove!!!

Here’s a very rough video of the mornings rather soggy, good natured riot of fun.  Even the grown ups were quite civilised it must be said.

About Ray Cassidy

Having lived in Stanwix for several years and having found myself with time on my hands, I decided to lend a hand to the SCA way back in 2008. The first project was the website and a stint as a committee bod. However techie stuff meant we had to lay Stanwix info to rest. I just keep it as a testing platform now. Once the refurbishment of the community centre was complete, we realised that we need ed to make sure we could market the centre reasonably effectively. To that end I offered to use the resources of Consulting Cumbria Ltd to do a little community service. Without going over the top, we have managed to keep the website fairly prominent and integrated a simple online payment and booking system to help us bring in users . If you would like similar help with your business' website just contact us on: 01228 907 795 or find us on the website at Consulting Cumbria Ltd.
